Queensland Mining Awards Finalists Announced

20 August 2020 | Queensland Mining Awards

The Queensland Mining Awards have announced the 2020 finalists, with winners to be revealed in five weeks’ time at the Gala Awards Dinner in Mackay.

Finalist entries addressed safety and risk reduction using creative strategies that access the latest thinking and technology, impressing the judging panel with problem-solving that will benefit the resources industry in coming decades.

Entries were peer-judged by a panel of senior executives from major resources companies, in corporate management, procurement and site-based management. This year, the panel included:
Peter Kane, COO, QCoal Group
Sharna Glover, CEO, Imvelo
Darren Oliver, Group Manager Procurement, Glencore
Andrew Wilson, Head of Digital Teams, BHP
Chris Mijnssen, Group Manager Bowen Opportunities, Arrow Energy
Dan Reynolds, Head of Transformation, Anglo American

Bowen Basin Mining Club Director Jodie Currie says submissions were extremely competitive, demonstrating that Queensland businesses continue to lead the way in innovative thinking. “Our most popular category was the Innovation (METS) Award, with a number of outstanding innovations on the table. Judges were looking for quantifiable outcomes and future applications – and they weren’t disappointed,” said Ms Currie.

Queensland Resources Council co-host the Awards. QRC CEO Ian Macfarlane commented, “It’s wonderful to see the depth and breadth that we have here in the Queensland mining industry. Congratulations to all entrants and finalists for their outstanding efforts and their ongoing contributions to the sector.”
