20 May 2020 | Industry News
Queensland’s tough mining laws have been made stronger by establishing industrial manslaughter as an offence for the states resources sector. Employers and senior officers can now face jail time or receive a hefty fine of up to of $13.3 million for a company, if mine and quarry workers die because of criminal negligence.
Speaking up about safety, shouldn’t mean risking your job. New laws are set to change that, including a new requirement to ensure coal mine workers with statutory safety roles are also employees, not contractors.
