Awards Entry Period Extended Until July

The Queensland Mining Awards have a new extended entry period, with businesses today given an extra two months to finalise and submit their game-changing projects for peer recognition.
Entries are now open until Friday 3 July, with finalists announced across 7 categories on Friday 21 August. The Queensland Mining Awards Gala Dinner has been rescheduled to Wednesday 23 September, following on from last week’s announcement to move the Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition (QME) to September 22-24 in Mackay.
Given the current climate, Bowen Basin Mining Club Director Jodie Currie says the change was made due to a number of factors, including the postponement of QME.
“Just like other industry organisations, we want to do everything we can to help businesses stay connected during a period that’s unlike anything we’ve seen before. While businesses are finding their way through, it might be hard to focus on an Award entry but with the extra time, I want to encourage thinking about the future and how you want to position your business at the other end of this crisis.”
“Reed Mining Events and Mackay Regional Council have been strong supporters of the Awards right from their establishment, so changing our event in a way that still aligns with them allows us to return that support.”
Projects completed between May 2018 and April 2020 are eligible for entry into the Awards, which means that early responders to the coronavirus pandemic could submit their projects for consideration in some categories.
“Our industry is no stranger to business in trying times, but contractors, suppliers or producers who have rolled out new innovation, safety, environment or community initiatives in response to COVID-19 can now include these initiatives in their entries – and any entry that wins an Award on that basis is going to have a remarkable story to tell for a long time to come.”
Peer judging for the Awards is still in place, and the talented panel of executive, procurement and operations experts across coal and gas sectors will decide on this year’s winners.
The Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning still has free support resources for entrants over the extended entry period.
